Parcel Delivery Services
Dedicated Vehicle Delivery
Usually known as same day courier or a Man and a Van service, this is ideal for urgent deliveries or bulky items over a fairly short distance as this is charged by the mile. There are some services where you can get a ‘piggy back’ load over long distances, hence reducing the cost
Domestic Parcel Service
This is a UK domestic service based on a parcels weight and dimension, usually up to 30kg volume metric weight. Most carriers charge extra for the Scottish Highlands and Offshore Islands. There is a time sensitive optional extra for deliveries if you wish these to arrive the following working day before 0900, 1030 or 1200. There are other carriers that will take heavier weights but generally you would need lifting facilities to load these.
International Parcel Service
This is similar to the domestic parcel delivery service, but will take heavier than 30kg and volume metric weights are rigorously enforced. Inside the European community this process is straight forward, but generally the further you deliver from the UK the more documentation you need, i.e. personal effects to the USA need to be listed down to every last sock!. You can also book time sensitive deliveries in certain areas
This service can also be used to bring goods or documentation into the UK.
International Freight Services

Express Courier
Is it a dedicated vehicle delivery you need? Usually known as same day courier, these are used to deliver urgent documents, spare parts, or extremely heavy goods that are very time sensitive. All they do is collect from point A and deliver to point B and should be your dedicated vehicle until the job is completed. These jobs are priced by the mile, but how that is calculated varies from company to company.

Although parcel carriers offer guarantees, that does not stop them failing, so if it is a really important delivery, I would suggest a same day courier, otherwise you could be shouting down the phone at someone, to no avail as they don’t know where your parcel is!
